Important Safety Notice for Corsets in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on General Product Safety (GPSR)

This is a targeted safety notice for the correct and safe use of corsets (textile, leather, mesh, elastic; with steel/plastic boning, front busk/hook/zip fastening, back lacing, reinforcements, decorative elements, “waist trainer”/shaping underwear, models with magnetic or metal clasps). Since they may contain hard and sharp parts, metal or magnetic components, and when tightened improperly exert strong pressure on the chest, abdomen, and back, please follow the instructions below.

Basic Safety and Handling Principles

• Keep out of reach of children: Boning, hooks, laces, and small decorations pose a risk of swallowing and entanglement; the product is not a toy.
• Check before use: Inspect seams, boning, channels, busk/hooks, eyelets, and lacing; do not use the corset if boning is broken, rusty, bent, or eyelets are loose.
• Sharp/metal parts: Damaged boning can pierce the fabric and injure the skin; replace the product at the first signs of damage.
• Magnetic/metal parts: Follow staff instructions during security checks and MRI scans; keep away from payment cards and sensitive electronics.
• Fire and heat: Most textiles are flammable; avoid open flames and hot surfaces.

Proper and Safe Use

• Appropriate tightening: The corset must not restrict breathing, cause pain, tingling, or numbness. Increase tightening gradually (“seasoning”); start with short intervals of 1–2 hours and take breaks.
• Breathing and posture: Breathe smoothly; if you experience dizziness, nausea, or chest pressure, immediately loosen or remove the corset.
• Laces and entanglement: Secure long loose lace ends; do not wear corsets with laces when working with machinery, on escalators, during sports, or cycling.
• Activities and sitting: Choose a looser fit for long sitting/driving; do not adjust the corset while driving. When using a seatbelt, ensure metal parts do not cause excessive pressure.
• Sleeping and physical exertion: Do not sleep in the corset; it is not intended for intense sports or as personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Purpose: The corset is not a medical or orthopedic device (unless explicitly stated by the manufacturer).

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Storage

• According to the label: Corsets with steel boning are usually not machine washable; airing, spot cleaning, and occasional dry cleaning are recommended.
• Moisture and sweat: After wearing, let dry in the air away from direct sunlight; avoid prolonged moisture (corrosion, odor, mold).
• Metal parts: After contact with salt water/sweat, wipe dry to prevent corrosion and fabric discoloration.
• Storage: Store flat or hung so that boning and busk are not deformed; do not break or bend.

Specific Health Warnings

• Allergies and sensitive skin: Metal (e.g., nickel in eyelets/clasps), dyes, and adhesives may cause reactions; if redness or itching occurs, remove the corset.
• Pressure, organs, and circulation: Excessive tightening may cause heartburn, digestive issues, back/rib pain, or impaired circulation. Loosen or stop wearing if any problems occur.
• Pregnancy and health conditions: Do not wear the corset during pregnancy, after surgery, or with respiratory/cardiovascular diseases, hernias, or spinal disorders without consulting a specialist.
• Hydration and breaks: Drink plenty of fluids during prolonged wear and take breaks to relax.

Disposal

• Sorted waste and textile collection: Deliver textile parts to textile collection; separate metal/magnetic parts if possible. Safely wrap sharp boning.

Incidents and Contact

• In case of an incident (dizziness, chest pain, injury from boning, skin reaction), stop using the product immediately. Keep the product and proof of purchase for complaint processing.
