Important safety notice for candles in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR)

This is a targeted safety notice for the correct and safe use of candles. As they are a source of open flame and hot wax, it is essential to follow the instructions below to prevent fire, injuries, and damage. The notice is issued based on the requirements of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety.

Basic safety and handling principles

• Keep out of reach of children and animals: There is a risk of burns and fire; the product is not a toy.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended: Always extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.
• Distance from flammables: Place at least 50 cm away from curtains, paper, and other flammable materials and at least 10 cm from other candles.
• Stable and non-flammable base: Place on a flat, heat-resistant, and non-slip surface away from drafts.

Correct and safe use

• Wick adjustment: Before each lighting, trim the wick to approximately 5–7 mm and keep the wax pool free of wick and match residues.
• Burning time: Burn for a maximum of 3–4 hours continuously; do not handle or move a hot candle.
• Glass and container candles: Stop burning when about 5–10 mm of wax remains; overheating may cause the container to crack.
• Extinguishing: Extinguish with a snuffer or gently cover the flame; do not extinguish with water or blow out forcefully to avoid splashing hot wax.
• Special types: Use tealight candles only in suitable holders with adequate ventilation.

Cleaning, maintenance, and storage

• Cleaning surroundings: Remove soot from holders and surfaces after the candle has cooled.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dry, and dark place away from sunlight and heat sources to prevent deformation of the candles.
• Holder maintenance: Use non-flammable and stable holders; do not use damaged or unstable holders.

Specific health warnings

• Ventilation: Fragrance components and smoke may irritate sensitive individuals; use in ventilated areas and reduce the number of candles burning simultaneously.
• Allergies and sensitive skin: If irritation or headache occurs, extinguish the candle and ventilate the room if symptoms persist.
• Increased risks: Do not use near oxygen therapy, pressurized containers, or aerosols.

Disposal

• Safe removal: Allow remaining wax to solidify and remove mechanically; do not pour down the drain. Dispose of cooled glass or metal containers according to local regulations.

Incidents and contact

• In case of an incident (fire, burn, irritation), immediately stop using the product. Keep the product and proof of purchase for complaint handling.
